cleanin out my 6 shot, watchin the knicks flop

Isiah Thomas continues to outdo himself as the President of the New York Knicks. That's not a compliment. I believe the only player left on the roster since he took over 22 months ago is the gimp with the bad knees and worse contract. And in turning over the entire roster, has Thomas assembled a team that is a championship contender? Is there any semblance of a plan for the future?

Well, for those not paying attention, Thomas's latest move is to trade for center Eddy Curry, who may or may not have a fatal heart condition. And who averaged all of five rebounds per game last season. Thomas ostensibly targeted Curry because the Knicks need more size. Of course, he just drafted 6'11" Channing Frye a few months ago, who was promptly embarrassed in the NBA summer league. Thomas then signed center Jerome James, whose primary talent seems to be his ability to stand 7'1" and 280 pounds, for $30 million. Do the Knicks plan to use all of these players at the same time (which might be more fun to watch than their conventional lineup, though hardly effective)? Why didn't Thomas consider trying to trade for Curry before drafting Frye or signing James? Well, I don't believe he thinks about such things at all. His M.O., as far as I can tell, is to decide he likes a player, and then try to get him - disregarding any considerations of payroll, complementary skills, or what has to be given up in exchange.

On a more personal note, now that the Knicks have traded away Kurt Thomas and Mike Sweetney this off-season, I no longer like a single player on the team. Thanks, Isiah, for giving me a bunch of crap to root for. Perhaps a couple of them will grow on me, or maybe new coach Larry Brown will prove he really is a genius. Most likely, by December Isiah Thomas will have added a few more flawed veterans who have contracts extending into the 22nd century.
