Here is the playlist for the Vinyl Frontier, 27 January 2004. A big thank you goes out to fwmj for hooking me up with the advance to Encore's new album, Layover, due out in March on Hieroglyphics Imperium. Is it rare to play shit before the album is released? I thought that was kinda par for the course, I didn't realize Encore was doing special favors.
Usually one or two singles will be released in the months before the album, and often only to radio DJs, so that's pretty standard - in this case, the Zigga Zigga single was released probably five months in advance (release date on the album is March 2nd, I think). And usually radio stations will get advance copies of the album a couple of weeks before the release date if the artist is even doing radio promo, but this isn't even an official advance copy. My guess is that there are probably about five radio stations with this in their hands - probably a few out on the west coast, near the Hiero crew, and probably one in NY. So yeah, it's pretty cool of Encore to let me play a couple of tracks...
