Here is the playlist for the Vinyl Frontier, 10 August 2010. As you may have heard, a deal appears to be in the works for KUHF to buy KTRU. I don't know that there is much that can be done to stop such a deal, but if you're a Rice student or an alumnus, call or write to the Rice administration. I'll have more to say about this in a later post.

Here is the playlist for the Vinyl Frontier, 27 June 2006. As an aside, if you have a Vestax 05Pro or other similar mixer that uses the DC-15A power adapter (15V, 500mA) you can actually replace it with a power adapter from Radio Shack (catalog number 273-1691). You'll probably need to bring the mixer in to the store to find out which Adaptaplug tip fits the mixer best (I think I have tip K, but I think L, M, and one other one also fit) and be sure to match the polarity correctly or you could blow out your mixer. Granted, you could just order an official Vestax replacement, but there are a lot more Radio Shacks than there are places that carry Vestax replacement power adapters...
Here's the playlist for the Vinyl Frontier, 20 June 2006. It looks like the power unit of my mixer died its final death, so I had to do the show from the main control room without mixing. It was also Justin's last night at KTRU; he's moving to Austin. Good luck; KTRU will miss you. Come back and visit us!

Check out Iomos Marad out of Chicago if you haven't already. He's down with the Family Tree/All Natural (he's signed on All Natural Hip-Hop) and his album is dope as hell. That's the old-school jazzy Chicago sound that Common used to have...

Here is the playlist from the Vinyl Frontier, 25 November 2003. I felt like a pretty good show - there are a ton of great records out right now - up until the point when some listener called and ruined it for me. Right at the end of the show. He had some problem with the Westside Connection track, namely that it criticizes Bush 43. I pointed out to him that, hey, it's just a song, and it's the artists' opinion not that of the radio station. Then he asked me (somewhat indignantly), "Aren't you mad/sad/upset about what happened in 2001? (9/11) Don't you feel patriotic?" Of course I am, but there's a significant difference between loving your country and being patriotic and loving the president and his policies. In fact, I would argue that it is patriotic to voice dissent, as this country is supposed to be one where free speech is allowed and every voice counts - democracy, anyone? Ahh, hell. I'm in a bad mood now.
Here is the playlist from the Vinyl Frontier, 18 November 2003. The first hour pretty much kicked ass. Bits and pieces of the rest were good. I almost started crying when I played the Jam Master Jay tribute song. R.I.P., Jason Mizell. Please check out the new foundation that was set up in his name, the JMJ Music Foundation.

Last night I got to cover the electronic music show on KTRU. Here's the playlist. Not the best mixing ever, but I had my moments, especially after I settled into the house groove...
Here is the playlist from the Vinyl Frontier, 19 August 2003.
Here's the playlist from the Vinyl Frontier, 12 August 2003. Some decent new stuff coming out these days - The Strange Fruit Project (from Waco, Texas!), Viktor Vaughn, Vaudeville Villain (a.k.a. MF Doom), some shit on Table Turns (including a track by Invisible produced by Mondee), and a track with Bahamadia as a guest MC...

Here is the playlist for the Vinyl Frontier, 15 July 2003. Some dope records out now; NickNack's newest ("Mustard Seed") is something that tablists will probably want to pick up; Libretto's "Dirty Thang" has a hot beat; and the Semi.Official 12" is nice as well (Semi.Official is Eyedea & Abilities plus I Self Divine).
Here is the playlist for the Vinyl Frontier, 8 July 2003.
Here is the playlist for the Vinyl Frontier, 1 July 2003. As a little side note, I'm now into my fifth year of doing this show - I started on the 15th of June, 1999. Shit, I've been a student at Rice a long time...
Here is the playlist for the Vinyl Frontier, 24 June 2003. If you're using the mp3 archive that I'm going to put up soon as a reference, I think I started recording during the middle of the Main Flow track.
Here is the playlist for the Vinyl Frontier, 17 June 2003. I appreciate all the phone calls - it's nice to know people are listening. Now I just need to figure out how to DJ and talk on the phone at the same time...
Here is the playlist for the Vinyl Frontier, 10 June 2003. There's some dope new shit out there. I didn't hit my stride so well last night, but I'm definitely impressed with some of the new records out there - 00Agents, Earatik Statik, Ugly Duckling, Aceyalone, Deux Process...
Here is the playlist for the Vinyl Frontier, 3 June 2003. I'll try to have an archive of the set up sometime over the weekend.
Here is the playlist from the Vinyl Frontier, 27 May 2003. Not such a good set. A bunch of good new tunes, but my back kept bothering me, and leaning over the tables was pretty painful. I'm getting old.
Here is the playlist from the Vinyl Frontier, 20 May 2003. Last night's show felt good. Lots of new (to me) tracks. Decent mixing. I'll try to get the archive mp3 up soon, as well as the last couple of weeks worth of shows.
Andrew and I held down the show for Audrey while she was away. Here's the playlist from the show; I'll try to get an mp3 of the set up sometime soon.

Below is the playlist for the Vinyl Frontier, 29 April 2003. I got a request for Joy Division during my show. Maybe next time.
Also, I had no idea how broken IE/Win (at least IE5/Win) was until I saw my page in it yesterday. I'll see if I can't fix the layout. The pictures are supposed to be floating punchouts in the upper right of their respective entries, but instead they're way off to the right. It looks fine in every browser I've tested on the Mac, though.
Here is the playlist from the Vinyl Frontier, 22 April 2003.
Here is the playlist from the Vinyl Frontier, 15 April 2003. Tax Day!
Here is the playlist from the Vinyl Frontier, 8 April 2003. Archive mp3 to follow soon. I would also like to state for the record that Rosco P. Coldchain is maybe the greatest name ever for an MC. That probably dates me pretty well, but damn I think it's hilarious...
Here is the playlist from the Vinyl Frontier, 1 April 2003. Archive mp3 of the set to follow soon.
So my mixing blew during the electro portion of the set, but I'm also going to partly blame it on the crossfader crapping out. I did record it, so the mp3 will go up later. In the meantime, here's the playlist for the Vinyl Frontier, 25 March 2003.
Here is the playlist from the Vinyl Frontier, 18 March 2003. Mr. Grinch came through and dropped a guest set, plus a couple of exclusive beat loops that he's been working on...
Here is the playlist for the Vinyl Frontier, 11 March 2003. I'll be posting the mp3 of the set soon. Email me or post a comment letting me know if that's a good idea; I'll keep posting them if it's desired. I'm going to run out of disk space eventually, but that's still a little ways off.
Here is the playlist from the Vinyl Frontier, 4 March 2003. MP3 of the show to go up later.
Here is the playlist from last night. Guest DJ-ing was Leigh (aka DJ Azure), dropping the jungle set from 10pm - 11pm. I'll be posting an mp3 of the show eventually.
Here is the playlist from the Vinyl Frontier, 25 February 2003. And as always, the time you don't record yourself is the time that you can do no wrong. Damn.
So the mp3 didn't turn out so well. I'm going to see if that's a problem with the source, or with the encoding. You can get the current version of the set here while I try to fix the problem. The set went reasonably well, considering I haven't actually listened to most of those songs in a while, and some were brand new to me. I guess I need to start practicing again...
Well, I'll try to post a playlist, but I'm going to have to trainspot the whole show. This week I had the Phonographerz turntablist crew (of which I am sort of a member) up on the show. Three turntables, tag team style. You can download the three hour set. Baby Cee, Cozmos, and Dave killed it. I tried to help.
Tonight, I'll be hosting the electronic music show on KTRU from 9pm to 11pm. I'll probably be spinning some house, some broken beat, some nu-jazz. Next Friday I'll be hosting as well, and Leigh will be the guest dj, so expect some dope jungle breakbeats...
