The Yuppie Pricks w/ The Squishees, The Jonx
@ Rudyard's
Danny writes:
Hey guys. Just writing to tell you about a show this Saturday at RUDYARD'S. It's the YUPPIE PRICKS and the SQUISHEES and probably US. The Yuppie Pricks are a band from Austin on Alternative Tentacles (Jello Biafra's label (Jello Biafra used to sing for the Dead Kennedys (The Dead Kennedys. . . never mind))). They have this shtick where they dress up and act like yuppies- tennis outfits, business suits, etc. Look at their website (all together now: yuppie pricks dot com) to get a better idea of what I'm talking about. I think the live reviews are especially revealing:
"These guys dressed in white tennis shorts, Izod shirts, and white sweatbands that said things like, 'I am rich,' and the lead singer's microphone was strapped to a tennis racket. . . tossing $5 at the guy who brought them drinks and saying, 'Here, you need this way more than we do.' When the guy didn't take the money, the lead singer just shook his head and said, 'What, he didn't take the money? Pride: that's why you people will always be poor.'"
The Squishees are Houston's best prog-punk band named after the Simpsons. I know there aren't a lot of those in Houston, but seriously, the Squishees are so good. They are SO good. You don't even know.
US (in Danny's quote) refers to The Jonx. They are also a very good band, at least in my opinion. I think the title of their album is too long (I can never remember more than "The Return of the.."), but other than that you should check it out.
