Vic Chesnutt, David Bazan, Mark Eitzel, and Will Johnson
@ Walter's
This is a concert "in the round," with each performer taking a solo set backed by the other musicians.
Vic Chesnutt is a wheelchair-bound singer whose songcraft rarely receives justice on his records, and yet there is a primal melancholy about his music that gains all the more poignance from his reedy, striving voice and stumbling delivery. My dad used to have a tribute CD to Chesnutt entitled "The Gravity of the Situation" (aka Sweet Relief II) that featured performances from R.E.M. (ok), Live (meh), Madonna (hmm), Garbage (errr), and Nanci Griffith with Hootie and the Blowfish. What?
Mark Eitzel used to be in American Music Club. I saw him in a similar format with Tuatara and the Minus Five when I was in high school. I don't remember what his music sounded like, but I do remember that after the show, Mike Mills and Michael Stipe of R.E.M. came out and played a couple of songs with the band. Cool, huh?
David Bazan is in Pedro the Lion. Blah.
