Breakestra w/ Zin, DJ Joe B., Ceeplus, DJ Samp
@ MFAH
The Museum of Fine Arts Houston brings back its music series, this time in conjunction with an exhibit entitled Gee's Bend: the Architecture of the Quilt. I don't think that the music is going to have much of a tie-in with the art like the Beats of Basquiat series did, but in this case, I don't really care. Breakestra are one of the best modern funk/soul bands around, hailing from Los Angeles. They've got a relatively recent album out on the Ubiquity label, after having released a few EPs and singles on the Stones Throw label. This band is ultra tight, with some sweet pocket drumming and a good male soul vocalist with the occasional hip-hop rhyme verse.
A bunch of local DJs and artists will be opening - Zin (MC, plus he has a show on KPFT), Joe B (of Rebel Crew, here spinning as Manuel Mambo), and Ceeplus and Samp.
