The Continental Club is one of the longest running clubs in Houston. It is divided into two rooms; the front room contains the stage (with one of the nicest metalwork signs I've seen), a small dancefloor, and a full-service shotgun bar along the left-hand side. Capacity is probably around 200. The back room has two pool tables, a Burger Time arcade game, and a shuffleboard game. A second bar is located in the back room, along with an exit to the back patio.

The club hosts a lot of local bands on a regular basis, with a heavy slant toward country, rockabilly, and blues. National acts do tour through here on a fairly regular basis, though.

Useful info:

  • Address: 3700 South Main St.
  • Phone: 713.529.9899
  • Parking: They have a lot in the back; generally you can park there for $5 which is usually reimbursed out of your cover charge. Streetside parking is also a possibility along Travis and Winbern.
  • It's right next to the Ensemble/HCC light rail stop, so if that's an option for you, take advantage of it.
