The Proletariat is a smallish venue located on Richmond just east of Montrose. It quickly became the darling of the club-going indie/hipster set shortly after opening in late 2002. Tends to be a bit smoky, but the drinks are pretty cheap. Lots of local rock bands play here, and some small touring nationals play here as well, especially if they're cutting edge and you've never heard of them before. The performance space can probably hold about 200 people.

- Parking: Parking can be a real pain in the ass here. There's a couple of businesses located near here whose lots you might be able to get away with parking in at night (Washington Mutual, the car wash across the street) but in general you have to park streetside, which can be difficult considering a good portion of the neighborhood put up no parking signs shortly after the bar opened for business.
